We went in October, the start of the rainy season in Bali, and true to form, on the day of our trip, the heavens opened. We were also late, very late, like 40 minutes; completely misjudging the time it took to get there and the traffic.
One of the drawbacks of Bali is the traffic, even during the off-season. So be warned, and leave plenty of time to reach your destinations!
In the taxi, I called Gorilla Adventures, a little worried we’d miss our slot, but they told us not to worry and that we could join the next time slot. This was a huge positive for the company and another reason I’m recommending them – they were very helpful.
However, we needn’t have worried. By the time we reached them, torrential rains had caused our slot to be postponed. We waited about half an hour for the rain to stop before heading out.

I booked this ATV tour in Bali because I wanted something fast and a little bit unhinged to break up the usual Bali routine – and it absolutely delivered.
For around 1.5 hours, it was just our small group rumbling through jungle trails and rice fields, splashing through deep puddles and looping around proper off-road circuits that felt far more adventurous.
What really sold it for me was the balance: enough speed to get the adrenaline going, but with a guide who actually let us have fun. He was joking around, clearly enjoying himself too, and the whole thing felt light-hearted and playful rather than over-controlled.

My Experience and What You Can Expect
We did this ATV tour in Bali in October, right at the start of the rainy season, and Bali really leaned into the drama. The heavens opened on the drive up, traffic was crawling, and we ended up late – classic Bali timing.
By the time we arrived, the rain was absolutely hammering it down anyway, so our group was postponed, and we waited around 30 minutes for the storm to pass. Annoying in theory, but a good sign they weren’t going to send us out in dangerous conditions.
Once the rain eased, it was time to gear up. You’ll get a helmet, boots and a quick safety briefing before heading onto a small practice circuit to get used to the quad. The bikes are pretty chunky and the steering feels heavy at first, so those first few loops are really useful, especially if it’s your first ATV Bali Ubud experience.
After that, we followed our guide along a mix of dirt tracks and little country roads until we reached the main jungle area, where the real fun begins.
The route itself is a mix of tunnels, jungle trails and rice fields. Early on we rode through a long tunnel; the first time I went in I hadn’t realised the lights were on the bike, so it felt pitch black and slightly wild, then suddenly you pop out into the open again.
The main highlight, though, is the circuits they’ve built. One is a big doughnut-shaped loop that, thanks to the rain, was absolutely full of water when we went. They add water anyway, but this was next-level.
We spent ages chasing each other round, trying to soak one another, sliding through thick mud and getting braver with each lap. At one point I took a corner a bit too fast and went up on two wheels, which was mildly terrifying and very “I may have misjudged that”, but honestly just added to the adrenaline.

The second circuit has mounds you can turn into little jumps if you hit them with enough speed – cue more laughing and some screaming. This is where it really starts to feel like one of the best ATV rides in Ubud if you’re into proper, messy fun.

Insider tip: There’s also a photographer out on the track snapping away while you ride. I didn’t risk taking my phone (it would 100% have been soaked), so I was glad to have the photo option at the end. From memory, the photo package was around 180,000 IDR – roughly £8/$11– which felt fair for a set of good action shots.
