I visited Tanah Lot independently while I was living in Bali, and although I’m really glad I went, I do think it’s one of those places that can work better as part of a tour.

We didn’t really know what we were doing, and in hindsight, it would have made more sense to combine it with other nearby stops rather than just turning up and figuring it out as we went.

I also think Tanah Lot is best visited in the dry season if you’re hoping for that famous sunset.
