Neighbourhoods in Amed
Amed isn’t one single village, but a long stretch of small coastal communities spread along the east coast. Where you stay can really shape your experience, so it’s worth choosing a spot that matches how you want to travel.
Amed Village/Beach is the most central and convenient base. It’s great if you want easy access to cafés, dive centres, snorkelling spots and sunset viewpoints, all within walking or short scooter distance. This area suits first-time visitors.
Jemeluk Bay and Lipah Beach are ideal if you’re here primarily for snorkelling, diving and beach time. These areas feel quieter and more laid-back, with beautiful bays perfect for couples, divers, and slow travellers.
Further out, places like Bunutan offer a more peaceful, local feel. They’re best if you’re happy scootering and want space, sea views and evenings lulled by the sound of the waves rather than village buzz.
Insider tip: Personally, I prefer the smaller villages south of Jemeluk Bay. They’ve got better views, quieter bays and a more rural atmosphere than the main strip along Amed Beach; you’ll need a scooter to get around, though.

If you’re deciding where to stay in Amed and want something affordable, central and right by the sea, Alur Beach Homestay is a brilliant option. Located in the heart of Amed, this beachfront stay combines ocean views with a welcoming, family-run atmosphere.

During my week in Amed, I stayed here, and it completely exceeded expectations for the price. If you’re researching where to stay in Amed and want something peaceful, Soka Amed Beach is a fantastic choice.
It’s slightly outside the centre, which I actually loved. Calm, quiet and just a short stroll along the beach into town.
What to expect:
- Spacious, private bungalows in a peaceful setting
- Two-minute walk to the beach
- Around ten minutes into central Amed along the shoreline
- Comfortable beds and beautifully designed rooms
- Outdoor shower with mountain and palm tree views
- Friendly, attentive staff are always happy to help
- Breakfast included
- No in-room fridge (but staff will store items for you)
- The rainy season can bring caterpillars (December)
Despite the seasonal caterpillars when I visited, I’d absolutely stay here again. For the price, it’s one of the best-value Amed hotels I experienced.

5. Amed Kunara Guest House

- Clean, tidy and comfortable rooms
- Warm, attentive hosts (Kardek and family)
- Small property with minimal guest disruption

Mid-range stays in Amed usually offer excellent value, especially when you remember the price is for the entire room, so if you’re travelling as a pair, you can split the cost.
This is also where things get a little more special. In this bracket, you’ll start to find private villas, better views, and added comforts, making it a great balance between affordability and indulgence.

Places To Stay In Amed Bali For A Month+
If you’re planning to stay in Amed for a month or longer, you might automatically think about using platforms like Airbnb or Vrbo, which can sometimes offer decent discounts for longer stays, especially for stays of 30 days or more.
That said, in Bali it’s often not necessary.
Many rooms, bungalows and villas listed on Booking or Agoda are perfectly suited for longer stays, and you’ll usually find better flexibility and competitive rates directly through those platforms.
In Amed, especially, long-term options are surprisingly easy to find without relying solely on holiday rental sites.
Here are four places to stay in Amed for an extended period:
- Blue Earth Village: Deluxe Double Room. If it’s a laidback co-working space you’re after, then Blue Earth Village is our top choice – shared kitchen.
- Kirana Homestay: 2-Bed Bungalow (minimum 2 nights). Located in Karangasem, this vacation home lets you experience it all while being only 7 minutes from Amed beach – kitchen available.
- Jemeluk Cottage: 1-Bed Beach Front Cottage. This rustic beach boutique lodge is located in Amed, Karangasem, Bali. It provides a spacious private cottage with a terrace and a fridge, but no other amenities.
- Amed Villa: Gorgeous three-bedroom villa. Travelling in a group? A peaceful retreat for families and friends, the perfect getaway located a short walk from the beach – kitchen available.
5 Best Locations To Stay In Bali
Most travellers visiting Bali don’t stay in just one place. The island is incredibly diverse, and each region offers something completely different, from surf towns and yoga hubs to quiet fishing villages and jungle retreats.
I personally ended up spending four weeks road-tripping around Bali on a scooter, and it quickly became one of my favourite destinations in Indonesia.
The mix of welcoming locals, dramatic landscapes and varied coastlines makes it the kind of place you want to explore slowly.
If you’re planning a trip and wondering where to base yourself, here are the best locations to visit in Bali, depending on your travel style and what kind of experience you’re after.
Canggu
A trendy and laidback beach town in the southeast of Bali. It’s become a very popular destination, attracting a young crowd and loved by digital nomads and expats.

Uluwatu
A fun area tucked away within the cliffs of South Bali. It can get busy, such as the popular beaches of Padang Padang and Dream Beach, but it’s also quite spread out with pockets of (almost)untouched beaches.

Medewi
It’s a village about two hours north of Canggu, and it’s the perfect spot if you want to hone your surfing skills in a laid-back rural village.

Pemuteran
Located in northern Bali, Pemuteran is a great spot for outdoor enthusiasts. It’s right on the coast, close to West Bali National Park, Menjangan Island and the mountains.

Mount Batur
You’ll find Mount Batur is the most popular volcano to hike in Bali. You’ll need to head to the farmer’s town of Kintamani, which deserves at least one night’s stay, although most tours will pick you up from anywhere in south Bali.
