 4. Soka Amed Beach Hotel: Double room with garden view

This is where we stayed during our visit to Amed and we loved it. The staff was exceptional, and the accommodation, for the price, surpassed all expectations! The only downside was that we visited in December during the rainy season and so it was caterpillar season too, so they were everywhere.

Nevertheless, Soka Amed Beach is somewhere we would absolutely return to and recommend this place to our friends. The spacious bungalow was calm and relaxing, only a two-minute walk from the beach and ten minutes from the centre along the beach.

5 Best Locations To Stay In Amed

The majority of travellers who visit Amed tend to explore other parts of Bali or make several stops throughout the island. We absolutely adored Bali and found it to be one of our favourite destinations in Indonesia, owing to its welcoming locals and breathtaking scenery. In the end, we decided to tour the island on our scooters and spent 4 weeks on a Bali road trip!

👉 Related Post: Road trip aside I’ve also put together a couple of itineraries for 5 days in Bali and 3 weeks in Bali. They move around the island, as much as possible, but make sure you’ll visit all the top spots and some new ones!

Here are the places we visited while we explored Bali:

Canggu

Canggu is a trendy and laidback beach town in the southeast of Bali. It’s become a popular destination that attracts crowds that would have otherwise gone to Seminyak. It’s also loved by digital nomads and ex-pats and really lets you experience the best of island life.

Uluwatu

Uluwatu is a fun area tucked away within the cliffs of south Bali. It can get busy, such as the popular beaches of Padang Padang and Karma beach but it’s also quite spread out with pockets of (almost)untouched beaches. This is also the place to head for sunsets over the cliffs and of course, epic surfing!

👉 Related Post: Check out Nunggalan beach on the tip of south Bali. Visiting this beach was one of our favourite things to do in Uluwatu and since it takes 20 minutes of hiking down the cliff side, it’s not as popular – what goes down must go up!

Medewi

Do you love to surf? Do you want to escape the crowds in south Bali? Then head to Medewi! It’s a village about two hours north of Canggu and is the perfect spot if you want to hone in on those surfing skills…

👉 Related Post: We loved Medewi. It’s still quiet enough to enjoy authentic Bali but busy enough to not get bored! Check out the best things to do in Medewi here.

Pemuteran

Located in north Bali Pemuteran is a great spot for outdoor enthusiasts. It’s right on the coast, close to West Bali National Park, Menjangan Island (which means breathtaking diving spots) and the luscious mountains. It’s a great base if you’re heading on a day trip to hike Java’s Mount Ijen or if you want to explore north Bali’s waterfalls!

👉 Related Post: The best thing to do in Pemuteran is to go hiking up the winding mountain paths, with no particular destination in mind, this was a fun way to explore the town, meet locals and enjoy the serenity of North Bali!

Mount Batur

You’ll find Mount Batur is the most popular volcano to hike in Bali. The other is Mount Agung but it’s larger and harder so Mount Batur is favoured. You’ll need to head to the farmer’s town of Kintamani which deserves at least one night’s stay, although most tours will pick you up from anywhere in south Bali.

Is Amed Safe For Tourists?

Rural villages such as Amed in Bali are typically very safe. This is largely due to the tightly-knit communities and the nature-loving travellers who frequent these areas.

These individuals are typically kind and welcoming, which makes for a very safe environment. During our stay in Amed, we felt completely secure and comfortable exploring the village and surrounding mountains.

The only thing to be cautious of is the muddy trails (during the rainy season) and scooters zooming along the roads. Other than that, it’s an otherwise beautiful and secure place.

Pro tip >> Bali is home to active volcanoes and so natural disasters such as eruptions and earthquakes are possible, however rare. Make sure you keep up-to-date and informed on news and government announcements prior to and throughout your trip.
